The exhibits were displayed at a small gallery above a home decor and tapestry shop.It took me quiet a while to find the place as I had to go down several streets to get there and it was a very quiet place that was well hidden.
This art exhibition to my surprise, once again had the works of a German artist named Nele Martins and also the works of an Indian artist named Rakhee Kane.I spent an hour wandering around that little space as seeing western and Indian works together indeed amazed me.It offered me an opportunity for further comparison of Western and Eastern 'mindset'.It is indeed vibrant how art is unique across cultures and how artists further specialize and create their individuality based on what 'defines' the artwork of their region and culture.By looking at a piece of artwork one can easily identify which part of the world the artist is from and those who pay close attention to detail would easily be able to identify the region as well.
These are some of the pics from the exhibition and I am sure after scrolling down the pics the readers of this blog would be able to identify at least the basic difference between the art of the east and the art of the west-:
ARTWORK BY NELE MARTINS
Unlike Trockel,Martin's art is that of a 'typical' German as she has used similar shades of color for the works that were displayed and her artworks are representative of the classical 'western' way of doing artwork and it will give the viewer an insight of the western mindset.
RAKHEE KANE
Rakhee Kane 's diyas made me wish they were put up for sale, so that I could use them for the forthcoming Diwali festivals. There were more exhibits of Rakhee Kane's than what I have uploaded. I was unable to upload the rest of the pics due to some technical errors so I will try uploading it another post.
While the western artwork is of a very classical and orthodox form which reflects the western mentality of being organised and carrying out activities in a more systematic and standardized fashion, eastern art focuses more on contemporary events and the current scenarios and it gives us a reflection of the current situation and a glimpse of the path that the future is headed towards. The artworks of the east reflect the eastern mindset of 'here and now' and how easterners focus more on personal 'feelings' rather than reason. Some of the works by Eastern artists do convey a vision of an 'ideal world' and the desire to be like the western countries.
As I was about to exit the gallery I was asked to provide my comments on the guestbook and to my amusement I saw on the guestbook that the person who had visited the gallery just before I did was the Tamil actor Jeeva. He had given his e-mail address and phone number as well on the book.In India, famous people usually never go to public places unless there is an event or a promo considering the wave that is created around them due to their 'celebrity' status.I guess that is why the owner was clever enough to have chosen a location that is well hidden.
